Brian Landis Folkins

Film and stage actor Brian Landis Folkins was born February 12, 1974 in Berkeley, California and grew up in the south in the small town of High Point, North Carolina. After going through a severe patch of juvenile delinquency, Brian moved to Colorado to start his 2nd junior year in High School, where his passion for acting changed his life. He continued his studies in Theatre and Photography at Metro State College of Denver before dropping out to pursue acting full time.

Known to most simply as The BLF, Brian has worked as an award-winning actor across the country for over 20 years. His career on screen has spanned commercials, industrials, video game motion capture, and more than a hundred short and feature length films. For over two decades, Mr. Folkins has shared this expertise as a core teaching artist at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. An artistic company member at the nationally recognized Curious Theatre Company, Brian is known for his extremely broad range of characters and his heart-felt, in depth performances.

The release of HOAX (2019), and breakout starring role in the upcoming film RENT-A-PAL (2020), marks a career-defining moment for The BLF as a complex and exciting character actor.

In 2019, Mr. Folkins won a Henry Award (Colorado’s equivalent to a Tony) for Best Actor in a Play for his performance in CHURCH AND STATE.

The Hollywood Reporter

“What makes the film work as well as it does, at least up to a point, are the perfectly calibrated performances. Folkins is superb as the socially maladroit David, making his character sympathetic in his genuine satisfaction in being a caretaker despite the personal toll it enacts.”

– Frank Scheck

Westword Magazine

“All first-rate actors are first-rate in completely different ways, and Brian Landis Folkins is no exception….Folkins is someone  with the ability to absolutely inhabit a role. And his performance in the world premiere of Astronomical Sunset is the linchpin that holds the… script together, keeping us involved all evening long. “

– Juliet Wittman (Curious Theatere’s Astronomical Sunset)

RogerEbert.com

“Watching Folkins watch this tape—to see the formation of this relationship—makes for one of the most original and riveting sequences of 2020.”

– Nick Allen

Onstage Colorado

“Folkins is fantastic in this role, the kind of actor you can’t take your eyes off when he’s on stage. Peering through thick, clear-framed glasses, he’s got a big lift carrying around the broken, moral compass the rest of the characters have abandoned — and he carries it well. His flummoxed, fulminating everyman is as hilarious as it is tragic.”

– Alex Miller (Curious Theatre’s GLORIA)

Alliance of Women Film Journalists

“Even given the film’s throwback setting and concept, it still falls into a very familiar category –– that’d be movies about struggling men who employ drastic means to alert their existence in the pursuit of solace, catharsis and contentment –– but, with Folkins at its core, this never feels like just another feature on that ever-growing pile. Although the movie’s distinctive tone can’t be underestimated, it wouldn’t work without a fine-tuned lead portrayal. In fact, David’s disquieting reliance upon Andy, the disturbing descent that follows, and his all-round awkward, longing, increasingly questionable demeanor hits its mark because every move that Folkins makes in the role paints these escalating actions and reactions as the natural, inevitable trajectory.”

Planet JH

“I could write profusely about the captivating performances by lead Brian Landis Folkins… Because the emotion portrayed by Folkins is so potent and believable, initially I wanted to side with him and hoped he would get away with the murder.”

– Abbie Miller (Off Center’s Crime and Punishment)

Brightest Young Things

“Brian Landis Folkins makes a ferocious, achingly honest feature debut…Folkins belongs alongside the loners we have seen in Taxi Driver, The King of Comedy, and especially the forgotten Big Fan. There is no apology in these performances, nor any sense of affectation. What he have instead is courage, the sort of unwavering performance where every choice, no matter how painful or destructive, has a ring of truth to it.. If Folkins gets a fraction of the attention he deserves, he may become one of our great character actors.”
